Veris Consulting, Inc., as part of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee DC Public School Partnership Program, is proud to support the Committee’s participation in the GeoPlunge Program, a geography-based knowledge competition for elementary school students.  LearningPlunge, the 501(c)(3) behind this program, shares that GeoPlunge is a program “launched in Washington, D.C. over a decade ago.  Thousands of D.C. Public School students in grades 3 – 8 have played GeoPlunge, including a large portion from Title I schools. Teachers, school librarians, and volunteers from area businesses have coached these students in school, or after school, culminating each year in two excitement-filled, city-wide tournaments held at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery. We have been told many stories about how being involved in GeoPlunge has spilled over into other subjects by motivating students to gain strong study and preparation skills that they then use in their other classes, while also giving them confidence that they can succeed in learning and bolstering their self-esteem.”

Staff members from Veris proudly continue our longstanding commitment to the Washington Lawyer’s Committee and GeoPlunge program by again serving as mentors and coaches to students at Ludlow-Taylor Elementary School this fall, culminating in a tournament held on December 11, 2018 at the Smithsonian Institute’s National Portrait Gallery.

The Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 1968 to provide pro bono legal services to address discrimination and entrenched poverty in the Washington, DC community.  The DC Public School Partnership Program partners 50 area law firms and businesses with individual DC public schools throughout the city, in the process bringing tutoring, mentoring, and other academic enrichment services to thousands of children. The main concept is for these firms and businesses ultimately to become an integral part of the network of community support for their partner schools. These school partnerships also encourage parental involvement activities and support school fundraising, repairs, upgrades and beautification projects.
