Veris' President & Senior Managing Director, Michelle Avery, recently served as program faculty for the American Legal Institute’s – Continuing Legal Education’s 2018 Accountant’s Liability Course.   This year's course, titled “The Profession in an Uncertain World”, was held Oct. 18 & 19, 2018 at the Renaissance Downtown in Washington D.C.  Avery co-presented on a panel with Jonathan Wiggins from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of the Chief Accountant and Barbara Vanich, Acting Director, Office of Chief Auditor of the PCAOB in a session titled “New Accounting Standards – What You Need to Know and Observations from the Commission’s Office of the Chief Accountant.”

Over the past decade, the Financial Accounting Standards Board has issued multiple once-in-a-generation standards. The profession’s transition efforts are in full swing as companies of all sizes work to implement the new requirements. During this session, expert accountants will provide a high-level overview of the new standards, including revenue recognition, leases, and expected credit losses. Staff from the Commission’s Office of the Chief Accountant will offer insight on the new standards, including perspectives gained from OCA’s consultation process with registrants.
